The import feature in MSDS Authoring provides an alternative to entering MSDS and standard phrase information in the MSDS Editor. The data to be imported can come from a variety of sources. Before see the articles titled “MSDS Import File Format (AS/400)” and “Standard Phrase Import File Format (AS/400)” for details.
*** Procedures ***
Transfer the import files to the AS/400:
The MSDS Import file should be copied as a member of the file MSIMPRT in the data library (usually HAZDAT0). If you have no preference, use member MSIMPRT. This member will be cleared at the end of the process, so you may want to copy it to another name as a backup. Standard Phrase Import files should be copied as a member of the file SPIMPRT in the data library. If you have no preference, use member SPIMPRT. This member will also be cleared. If you need an FDF file for the transfer, you can use SEND2400.FDF, which is supplied with the SEND2400 program. If you want to create the FDF file, it should appear as follows:
PCFDF
PCFT 1
PCFL MWTEXT 1 78
Start the HAZOX system:
Use your normal procedures for starting the software, or type STRHAZOX at a command line.
Go to the MSDS Authoring Menu, via either the MSDS Management Menu or the MSDS Formulation menu.
Import any standard phrases and activate them before you import your MSDS’s. This is especially important if you plan to import, as active, MSDS’s that use these standard phrases.
Select the menu choice for the type of import you want to perform (MSDS vs. Standard Phrase).
For the Member to Process, enter the name of the member that contains the imported text.
Set Activate to ‘Y’ if you want the imported text to be available to users right away. If you say ‘N’, you will need to approve each one individually later. Note that standard phrases cannot be deactivated or deleted, although they can be modified.
The Log Comment appears only in the MSDS Authoring module. Whatever you put here will become the Log Comment in each imported MSDS or standard phrase.
The Override option applies only if Activate is set to ‘Y’. If Activate is ‘N’, the current In-Work version (if any) will be replaced. If Activate is ‘Y’ and you choose to override the existing one, the existing one will be archived. If you choose not to override, a new In-Work version will be created if there is already an active one.
Press <Enter> to start importing. A status report will be printed. The spool files are called AU2140P for MSDS Import and AU2240P for Standard Phrase Import. You can also check the results through Maintain MSDS’s and Maintain Standard Phrases on the Authoring Menu.
